Whether you’re contemplating
a short get-away, a family vacation or an extended trip
around the world, some planning before you leave home
will give you peace of mind.
Saving for your vacation
Consider directing a portion of your pay cheque towards
one of the OPPA Credit Union’s high-interest
savings accounts. It’s a simple and painless
way to save for your trip.
Borrowing
If the cost of the vacation is more than you have on
hand, consider a personal
loan or line of credit.
With payroll deduction,
your loan payment will be deducted right from your pay
and you won’t have to worry about being overdrawn
or missing a payment. The line of credit may be helpful
for paying for your trip upfront, or to cover travel
emergencies while you’re away. And it’s
less expensive than using your credit card.
Purchasing travel insurance
If you get sick or injured, government health insurance
plans may only pay a small fraction of your medical
expenses. Purchasing travel
insurance before you leave home can cover you for
some of the additional expenses you may incur.
Accessing your cash
Wherever you travel, you can access your account with your OPPA Member Card debit card through ATMs bearing the logos of THE EXCHANGE® Network, InteracĀ® and PLUSĀ®.
See ATM locations for
details.
Using cash alternatives
Always carry some local currency for tipping, taxis
and small purchases, but not too much. Travellers cheques
and credit cards are safe, convenient options. The OPPA
Credit Union offers a no-fee MasterCard credit card.
